Neat Freak Nest publishes practical guides to cleaning and organizing a home. This page explains how those guides are researched, written, checked and kept up to date, and how to tell us when something is wrong. We would rather be transparent about our process than make claims we cannot back up.
What we publish
Our guides cover home cleaning, decluttering and organization: room-by-room checklists, step-by-step cleaning methods, storage ideas and seasonal routines. They are written for everyday households, not professional cleaners, and they are meant as general information. They are not a substitute for professional advice on health, safety, electrical, plumbing, mold remediation or pest problems. Our disclaimer explains this in more detail.
How we research a guide
Every guide starts with a real question people ask, such as how to clean a glass stove top without scratching it, or how to organize a deep pantry. Before writing, we look at:
- Manufacturer care instructions. For appliances and surfaces, the maker’s use-and-care guidance comes first, because finishes, filters and cleaning cycles differ between brands. Where it matters, we tell readers to check their own owner’s manual.
- Public health and safety sources. For anything involving bleach, ammonia, acids, mold or food storage, we check guidance from public agencies and poison-control organizations, such as the U.S. EPA, the CDC, state health departments and poison control centers.
- Product labels. When a guide mentions a type of cleaner, we tell readers to follow its label directions.
- Common household practice. Organizing advice is based on widely used, low-cost methods (zones, labels, vertical storage, decluttering in small steps), explained in plain language.
We do not run a testing lab, and we do not claim lab results, certifications or statistics we have not verified. Where a guide relies on an outside source for a safety point, we link to that source so you can read it yourself.
Safety comes first
Any guide that involves cleaning products follows a few fixed rules: never mix cleaning products (especially chlorine bleach with ammonia or with acids such as vinegar), ventilate the room, wear gloves for strong products, test on a hidden spot first, and keep products away from children and pets. When there is a safer method that works, we recommend it first.
How we use AI
We want to be clear about how our content is made:
- Images: the images on Neat Freak Nest, including featured images and Pinterest graphics, are AI-generated illustrations. They show the idea of a space or method. They are not photographs of real homes or of finished results.
- Writing: our articles are written with the help of AI tools and are reviewed and edited by a human before they are published. A person checks the steps for safety, accuracy and clarity, adds or corrects details, and removes anything that cannot be supported.
- No fake experience: we do not use AI to invent reviews, testimonials, expert quotes, credentials or test results.
- Metadata is checked too: the human review covers each page’s title, search description, image alt text and structured data (such as FAQ markup), not just the article body.
- No invented authors: guides are published under “Neat Freak Nest Team” because they are a team effort. We do not use made-up names, AI-generated headshots or false credentials.
Reviews and updates
Each article shows the date it was last updated. We review guides at least once a year, update seasonal and holiday guides ahead of their season, and revisit any guide sooner when a reader reports a problem, when safety guidance changes, or when we find a clearer or safer method. When a guide is significantly changed, its updated date changes too.
Corrections
If you spot a mistake, an unsafe step, a broken link or advice that did not work for you, please tell us through our contact page. Include the page address and what you noticed. We read every message, and when we confirm an error we fix the guide and update its date.
Fact-checking. Before a guide is published or materially updated, a person checks its safety steps, quantities, times and product-handling advice against the manufacturer guidance or public sources linked in the article. Claims we cannot verify are removed or rewritten. Each guide that relies on an outside source for a safety point lists it in a “Sources & safety notes” line.
How corrections are handled. When a reader report or our own review confirms an error, we correct the guide, change its “Updated” date, and, for safety-related corrections, add a short note in the article saying what changed. We aim to review reported safety issues within 7 days.
Independence, links and advertising
Neat Freak Nest does not accept payment to recommend a product or method. If we ever publish sponsored content, affiliate links or advertising, it will be clearly labeled, and our disclaimer and privacy policy will be updated to explain it. Links to outside websites are included because we believe they are useful to readers. We are not responsible for the content of those sites.
